Once you enroll yourself in the training – you will realize that there are some steps which you need to follow. Only then you can take it to the next steps. For example, you need to learn floating by lying on your stomach. And then slowly do the baby walk steps to get the motion of hand.
And when you are learning treading – the focus is to continuously move your hands. You are encouraged to use both your hands and legs so that you don’t lose your balance.
Day in and day out – you follow all those things and it seems there is only one way to learn swimming. The way you are taught – but then it raises some questions and instills some fears.
It isn’t about not following the steps laid out. But rather allowing yourself to experiment and be open to ideas.
All In Your Mind
When I used to go hiking mountain – I knew the rule of 3 points. When climbing up it is necessary to have 3 points out of 2 legs and 2 hands connected to the mountain – helping in balance. One day, I was on a steep slope.
And thus, I had only 2 of my hands and my legs were in air – I got scared fearing the fall. My friend told me to look up and come fast. She told me that you can actually balance with just 2 hands and you can do it. When she said that, I don’t know what came to my mind – but somehow I was able to complete my climb.
So yes, there are some general rules and you should try to keep that in mind – but remember your body is capable of doing more things.
In the time of emergency don’t let some rules fool you. Challenge and come out of it – strong and brave.
One of the girl who used to swim in our batch – was a girl who has only 1 hand. What – ? How will she be able to swim?
That was my first line of thought. But as you know that the rules that you need to do the motion with both hands is a nice rule to have. However your body is capable of doing more, and if you put in the effort it can adapt to your individual needs.
For treading you can do it with just your hands or just your legs – or simply using your body. Once you let go off the rules – your become superhuman. And that’s what I saw in her.
There are multitudes of examples wherein the physical limitations didn’t stop people from trying and accomplishing tasks – like hiking, swimming or running.
So next time you feel like it is difficult – remember people with less physical abilities have done that. Stop making excuses and start working. Go go – I believe in you.
