You made up your mind that enough is enough. And you need to add the new skill of swimming to your kitty.
The motivation had kicked in and you want more. The idea of swimming in water, owning the area of water is a godly feeling. Someone rightly said, “The best thing in the world is flying, the second best thing is swimming”. You can’t fly but you can swim.
So how should you plan to start your journey. Is there a way you should follow or just dive in and let the course of action decide for you. The truth is everyone of us is different and the experiences will vary. But there are some ground rules, which if you follow then chances of success are high.
But as they say, all is in your hands. And while considering swimming, it is in your lungs, legs and guts too. So gear up and get ready to learn everything you need to know before starting your water adventure.
No Water-Theme Park
It is tempting when you see the water to jump, move in circles and play around. It is a lot of fun. And when you are with a bunch of buddies, the enjoyment gets tripled.
Going to a water park is amazing. You can do a lots of things and it is all great because it involves water. And who doesn’t love getting wet in water, dancing and sliding along. But water-themed park is expensive. The next best thing would be go to the swimming pool and treat it like a water-theme park.
Yes, there is no bells like slides and music playing. But you manage to do all sorts of things for the play part.
Here is where many people delay their practice. Avoid thinking of swimming pool as a playground for fun every time. Yes, you can enjoy swimming. But don’t fool around a lot when you are starting out. Because it will delay you ability to learn swimming.
Once, you have crossed the milestone of swimming your first lap then you are free to goof around as much as you like. But until then, treat your visit to the swimming pool like it is a ground for practice. Timed, milestone measuring practice and lots of patience.
I have seen many people from my colleagues who wanted to learn swimming. But they never did.
The reason is as weird and simple as it gets. They were waiting for someone to join them. If you think of any activity where you want to learn something then the best thing is to jump right in. If others join you then it is great. But if they aren’t coming, you should go ahead regardless.
The heard mentality is something which is ruining many of the things you might do in life. If she goes then it is a good trend then I will follow. Oh, all of my friends are going to this party then it must be nice. She bought a new gym memberships – I should join too.
Get out of this thinking and give yourself some spine to make a decision on your own. Yes, it is tough when you are moving ahead alone. Sometimes it might be scary too.
But the idea is you are standing up for yourself. No one will help you succeed unless you are moving ahead, making decisions and practicing like hell for your goal. So go ahead and crush it. Start now, don’t wait. Your future self will applaud you.
